In a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Rashad Nabiyev on the sidelines of the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25) in Baku, Hashemi said that Tehran and Baku’s technological commonalities could lead to convergence in space-based services development and spectrum management.
He said that relations between Iran and Azerbaijan have been increasing, especially since President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Baku.
He said the two countries enjoy long-standing friendship and inseparable ties, adding that digital and infrastructure cooperation forms an important part of the two countries’ strategic interests.
He also emphasized that one of the major challenges facing both countries is in the area of frequency allocation and signal management in border areas.
Mr. Hashemi noted the capabilities of both countries in digital governance, telecommunications networks and the development of joint IT projects.
He said Iran is ready to expand cooperation in the areas of satellites, infrastructure, data transfer and cybersecurity.
He said the Iranian government welcomes the creation of sustainable and strategic routes for data transfer (along the North-South Corridor and along the East-West Corridor).
The Minister of ICT of Azerbaijan welcomed the drafting of a joint memorandum in the field of information and communication technology.
Nabiyev expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to cooperate with Iran in the development of sensing satellites, cybersecurity and joint space projects.
He emphasized the importance of building a joint data corridor and proposed establishing a specialized ICT committee and holding a B2B meeting to identify new capabilities and partnerships between Iranian and Azerbaijani companies.
