At a ceremony at Tehran University on Thursday, Brigadier General Ali Mohammad Naini pointed to the 12-day war against Iran imposed by Israel with US support in June, saying it was the most complex war in the world and that the enemy’s miscalculations regarding its dependence on Iran’s power components and material structure were the main factors in its defeat.
Looking at eight years of sacred defense (from 1980 to 1988, Iraq imposed a war on Iran), the Revolutionary Guards spokesman said that the enemy at the time had made major blunders and miscalculations, such as underestimating the real power of Iran’s Islamic regime, which was rooted in popular support.
Naini stressed that the recent war was a “strategic turning point”, adding that the 12-day war pitted Iran against all NATO countries and the US Central Command (CENTCOM), thereby changing the balance of power in West Asia.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the spokesperson mentioned top Iranian commanders assassinated by the Israeli regime, including martyrs Rashid, Salami and Hajizadeh, who were constantly considering war scenarios.
“After the assassination of former Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, it became clear that war would definitely break out,” he said.
“The 12-day war imposed by Israel is a model for learning lessons against modern threats, new wars and hybrid wars,” he said, noting that the war showed that cyberspace, media, social awareness and technology play a fundamental role in modern warfare.
On June 13, while Washington and Tehran were in the process of nuclear negotiations, Israel launched a blatant and unprovoked invasion of Iran. The Israeli attack sparked a 12-day war that left at least 1,064 people dead in the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians.
The United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities in a serious violation of international law.
In response, Iranian forces targeted strategic locations throughout the occupied territories, as well as Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military base in West Asia.
On June 24, Iran successfully thwarted the invasion through successful retaliatory operations against both the Israeli regime and the United States.
