Speaking at the 355th Governing Council of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Reza Deghani, Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and called for a permanent end to the Israeli occupation of the enclave.
The representative of Iran pointed to the alarming findings of the International Labor Organization (ILO) report on a sharp decline in gross domestic product (GDP), the collapse of employment in the Gaza Strip, the displacement of 1.9 million people and the complete destruction of educational institutions.
President Deghani further called for the strong support of the international community to ensure sustained and unimpeded access to humanitarian assistance and to provide the necessary financial resources to fully support the ILO’s emergency response.
The representative of Iran stressed his country’s full support for the reconstruction of Gaza under full Palestinian sovereignty and solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom, justice and independence, and said that the fundamental rights of Palestinian workers to decent work, dignity and free life must be restored to them.
He stressed that rebuilding would cost a lot of money, and doing nothing would cost even more.
At the meeting, the Iranian representative appreciated the ILO’s urgent efforts, including the creation of 1,245 short-term jobs and support for business recovery, and welcomed the National Employment Strategy 2025-2027.
