Sheikh Ahmed bin Hasher Al Maskari, Director General of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC), Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressed that indirect negotiations between Iran and Washington will continue through Muscat’s mediation whenever the opportunity arises.
He said Oman believes in the principle of dialogue and establishing regional security.
He said Tehran and Muscat have a long-standing relationship, which is beneficial not only to both sides but also to the entire region.
He further said that Oman’s foreign policy is based on the principle of active neutrality and extends a hand of friendship to countries in the region and around the world.
In response to a question about his views on the future of the nuclear talks after the US launched a military attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities just before the start of the sixth round of nuclear talks, Mascari said: “Naturally, Oman played the role of facilitation and mediation in the indirect talks between Iran and the US. Whenever Oman is asked to play this role (mediation), we are ready to play that role, because we believe in establishing stability in the region.”
