The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran condemned the Israeli regime’s airstrikes on Sunday against populated areas in the Lebanese capital Beirut and called for Israeli responsibility for its crimes.
Israel launched a “treacherous attack” on a residential apartment building in Dahieh, a southern suburb of Beirut, on Sunday, killing at least five people, including senior Hezbollah commander Haysam Ali Tabatabai and four resistance fighters. Twenty-eight people, including women and children, were also injured.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday night that the attack was a “grave violation” of the November 2024 ceasefire agreement and a “brutal attack” on Lebanon’s sovereignty.
The ministry stressed the need to hold criminal Israeli leaders accountable for “acts of terrorism” and war crimes.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and paid tribute to General Tabatabai, praising his lifelong dedication to defending Lebanon from Israeli aggression.
The ministry also criticized U.S. support for Israel, suggesting that this support has led to repeated ceasefire violations by the Zionist regime.
The ministry also called on the United Nations and the international community to take decisive action against Israel’s crimes, saying these military incursions are a threat to regional and global peace.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers the inaction and silence of the United Nations and the Security Council regarding the Israeli regime’s continued aggression and countless crimes against the Lebanese people as deplorable and unjustified,” the statement said.
The ministry called for “serious action by the international community to confront organized terrorism and the Zionist regime’s warmongering against Lebanon and other countries in the region.”
The ministry concluded: “Without a doubt, the Zionist regime’s military adventures in the West Asian region pose the greatest threat not only to peace and stability in the region, but also to international peace and security, and it is therefore a global responsibility to counter this threat.”
Israel’s attack on the southern outskirts of the Lebanese capital is the latest blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement that Israel signed with Hezbollah in November 2024, which was intended to end hostilities that had escalated to full-scale war.
At least 14 people were killed late Tuesday in an Israeli military attack on the Ain al-Hilweh camp near Sidon in southern Lebanon. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said several people were injured, including a young student.
Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed around 4,000 people and displaced more than 1.2 million people across the country, according to Lebanese authorities.
