“It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Americans don’t care about Europe’s position. They say the Europeans can do whatever they want,” the Daily Telegraph newspaper quoted sources as saying, according to TASS.
U.S. representatives have not abandoned the original strategy outlined in the U.S. peace plan for Ukraine, the contents of which were leaked to the media, the people said. Under the plan, the United States and other countries would have to recognize Russian sovereignty over Crimea, Donbass and other territories that Ukraine would have to relinquish. In return, Kiev would receive security from the United States and Europe. A demilitarized zone is expected to be established in the area where Ukrainian troops are withdrawing.
The report notes that US President Donald Trump plans to send his son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow to make a proposal directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Putin was planning to host Witkov and that a preliminary agreement had been reached for him to visit Moscow next week. Other representatives of the U.S. government may also accompany Witkoff.
