Italy came from behind to defeat Iran and book a match against Portugal in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup.
Goalkeeper Farzaneh Tavasoli put Iran in the lead, prompting Italy to surround the opponent’s goal, fifa.com reported.
Tavasoli kept them at bay several times, but scored two goals in quick succession to put Azoulay in the lead. Adrieri Berthe scored the first goal with a fun dink, and Bruno Borges scrambled for the second goal. Gaby Vannelli then punished the use of Iran’s fly goalkeeper and scored from long range to seal the victory.
Francesca Salvatore’s side will face Portugal on Tuesday for the right to play the winner of Argentina vs. Colombia in the semi-finals.
The 2025 FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup is being held at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, Philippines.
The Iranian women’s team was in Group D of the World Cup along with Brazil, Panama and Italy.
The Iranian women’s team defeated Panama 6-2, but lost to Brazil and Italy in their group, ending the tournament with a victory.
