Speaking at a ceremony to commemorate National Navy Day and the annexation of the surface naval base Kodestan and the destroyer Sahand to the Southern Fleet of the Iranian Army and Navy, Khatami praised the unflinching efforts of the country’s navy, which demonstrated the country’s unprecedented authority on the international stage.
He also praised the gallantry and bravery of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s navy during its historic eight-year Sacred Defense (1980-1988, when Iraq imposed war on Iran).
He said that with the benefit of experts and the most experienced personnel, the country’s navy has been able to become self-sufficient in the domestic production of naval parts and equipment, and that the country’s navy is currently making great progress in this field in cooperation with the maritime industry and knowledge-based enterprises of the Ministry of Defense.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Major General Khatami pointed to Iran’s pioneering role in creating regional peace and security, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s constructive and unprecedented role in creating regional security has been proven since the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Mr. Khatami described the Israeli regime’s actions as a disturbance to peace and security in the region.
General Khatami underlined the Islamic Republic of Iran’s firm determination to safeguard national interests and the sustainable security of the Iranian state, saying that the country’s resolve is unwavering and it will continue with maximum strength on the path of self-sufficiency and defense progress.
