The Ukrainian military claimed to have attacked one of the largest oil refineries in southern Russia on the night of November 29, the Kiev Independent website cited a report on the Russian Telegram media channel on Saturday.
Photos and videos posted on social media by local residents claim to show a large-scale fire starting at the Afipski refinery in Krasnodar Krai.
Kyiv Independent said it could not immediately confirm the report. The Ukrainian military has not yet commented on the reported attack.
Information on the extent of the damage was quickly available.
The Afipski refinery is a regular target of Ukrainian attacks due to its proximity to frontline areas. The refinery had been attacked twice before, once on September 26 and again in August.
The Afipski refinery, located about 200 kilometers (124 miles) from the front lines, serves as an important logistics hub for the supply of diesel fuel and aviation kerosene to the Russian military, according to the Kiev Independent.
It accounts for 2.1% of Russia’s oil refining production and processes approximately 6.25 million tons of oil annually.
