Pope Leo XIV arrived in Lebanon on Sunday, the second and final stop of his first foreign trip as head of the Catholic Church, where he is expected to make a strong appeal for peace, Al-Mayadeen news agency reported.
The pope headed from Turkiye to Beirut, ending his four-day visit by warning of the “danger to the future of humanity” from an unprecedented number of violent conflicts around the world and condemning the use of religion to justify bloodshed.
His plane is scheduled to land at Rafic Hariri International Airport at 3:45 pm local time. During his visit, he will meet with the President and Prime Minister of the Republic and deliver a national address to Lebanese leaders.
Lebanon, which has the highest proportion of Christians in West Asia, continues to face continued Israeli aggression over the past year despite a declared ceasefire, with renewed threats of escalation if Beirut refuses to comply with Israeli demands.
