At a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Brigadier General Wali Madani said that Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) ground forces will host the Sahand 2025 joint counter-terrorism exercise with members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Shavester Governorate, East Azarbaijan Province, which will be carried out for five days.
He said countries including Belarus, Iran, India, China, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are participating in the exercise, as well as Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Iraq as guests, adding that senior security and military officials, including 20 security officials, 60 chiefs of staff and 40 commanders from member countries, will also participate. General Madani noted that the Sahand-2025 joint counter-terrorism exercise is being held in Iran after the 12-day war imposed by Israel against Iran, which is why this exercise is of utmost importance.
The general stressed that the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) is known as the world’s architect of counter-terrorism efforts and is always ready to cooperate with other countries in related areas.
“Today, terrorism has become a global threat without boundaries. One of the outcomes of this exercise is to improve the knowledge of national commanders in the field of counter-terrorism. Another objective of this exercise is to create synergies in the fight against terrorism and to exchange and cooperate with member states in the fight against terrorism,” said the Revolutionary Guards commander.
He stressed that regional cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is of great importance for Iran.
