He made the comments after a five-hour meeting with the Russian president, special envoy Kirill Dmitriev and Witkov ended just after midnight local time, RT reported.
“No compromise has been found so far,” Ushakov said afterwards, adding that a meeting between Putin and Trump is not currently planned.
“We discussed the substance, not the specific text or solutions. The parties see great potential for cooperation,” Ushakov said.
“Some of the U.S. proposals are acceptable to Russia, but there are others that Russia cannot accept,” he said, noting that territorial issues were also discussed.
Asked after the meeting whether peace was closer or further away, Ushakov replied: “It’s definitely not farther away.”
The aide said the U.S. delegation presented the Russian delegation with four more documents on resolving the Ukraine conflict.
Dmitriev wrote to X that the session was “productive” and Witkov immediately left for the US embassy.
