US President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office after a meeting in the Kremlin that US special envoy Stephen Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner believe Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to resolve the conflict with Ukraine, according to Sputnik.
“Their (Witkoff and Kushner) impression was that he (Putin) wants the war to end. I think he wants to get back to a more normal life. I think he wants to do trade with the United States,” Trump said Wednesday.
President Donald Trump said Ukraine currently faces many challenges, adding that he should have resolved the conflict with Russia months ago, as he told President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a White House meeting that Kiev had “no cards” against Russia.
“When I was in this office and I had the ‘no cards’ conversation with (Zelensky), I said, ‘You don’t have any cards,’ and that was when it was time to settle. I thought that would have been a better time to reconcile, but they (Ukraine) in their wisdom decided not to. They have a lot of things against them right now,” Trump said.
On Tuesday, Putin hosted Witkov and Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, at the Kremlin. In addition to the president, the Russian side was represented by Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special envoy of the Russian president in charge of economic cooperation with foreign countries.
