According to Mehr News Agency, members of Iran’s Parliamentary Budget and Planning Committee met with Army Commander Major General Amir Khatami during a visit to the Army Headquarters. Mr. Khatami expressed hostility towards US-led global arrogance. And Israel’s relationship with Iran is long-standing, dating back to the very early days of the 1979 revolution. He emphasized that as Iran develops, the scope, depth and intensity of this hostilities are increasing.
Referring to the recent 12-day war imposed by the Israeli regime on Iran, Khatami said that while Iran was engaged in negotiations with the United States, it was subjected to brutal attacks by Israel with American support and coordination. The Israeli regime sought to destroy Iran’s nuclear, missile, and air defense capabilities, target military commanders, and ultimately weaken the Islamic regime and state itself. However, due to the strategic guidance of the leadership, the change of commanders, the strength of the military, and the wisdom of the Iranian people, the enemy failed and called for a ceasefire, he said.
“We won because the enemy failed to achieve his objective,” Khatami said. He stressed that while Israel remains an existential threat, Iran will never stop improving its defense capabilities and will always prioritize strengthening its military capabilities.
He expressed his gratitude to the Iranian people for their decisive role in national security and reiterated that the country’s armed forces are ready to defend the Islamic system at any cost. Khatami stressed that any damage to the Islamic regime is tantamount to a blow to Iran’s independence and territorial integrity.
The meeting also included discussions with Army Chief of Staff and Coordinating Deputy Secretary General Habibollah Sayari and other senior military and parliamentary officials to share insights on strengthening national defense and security.
On June 13, while Washington and Tehran were in the process of nuclear negotiations, Israel launched a blatant and unprovoked invasion of Iran. The Israeli attack sparked a 12-day war that left at least 1,064 people dead in the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians.
The United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities in a serious violation of international law.
In response, Iranian forces targeted strategic locations throughout the occupied territories, as well as Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military base in West Asia.
On June 24, Iran successfully thwarted the invasion through successful retaliatory operations against both the Israeli regime and the United States.
