Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, led a high-ranking parliamentary delegation to Moscow on Monday, where he was received by Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali.
During the meeting, Mr. Azizi is expected to clarify the Islamic Republic of Iran’s views on the regional security situation and the role of parliament in countering unilateral measures by the United States.
The Collective Security Treaty Organization is a military-political alliance consisting of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan that began operations in 2002 based on the Collective Security Treaty.
Ensuring common security among member states is stated as the organization’s main goal.
The organization is responsible for coordinating defense policy, holding joint exercises, establishing rapid response forces, and combating terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking.
The 18th Parliamentary Session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) opened on Monday in Moscow with the participation of the Parliamentary Presidents of the member states except Armenia and the parliamentary delegations of Iran, China and Serbia.
