The Italian coach has signed a two-year contract with the Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF), with an option to extend the contract for another two years, Tehran Times reported.
At a meeting attended by Volleyball Federation President Milad Taghavi and members of the media at the Volleyball Federation headquarters in Tehran, Piazza expressed his hopes for success in his new role.
“First of all, I would like to thank the federation for giving me the opportunity to work as Iran’s coach. I want to rebuild many aspects of the team and that is why I am here. I intend to continue on the path of Julio Velasco with the team. Velasco changed the way the world looks at volleyball, and he did the same in Italy. I want to carry out this important mission with Iran,” Piazza said.
“I will do my best to raise the level of Iranian volleyball, and my assistant Tommaso Totoro will help me achieve that.”Iran has many high-quality players, Some of them have the potential to play in the best volleyball leagues. Work is expected to begin in May and a direction will be determined thereafter. ”
“The door to the national team is always open and every player can contribute. There is no predetermined list and the same applies to coaching. All Iranian coaches will cooperate with the national team. I can.”
When asked about certain players trying to exert undue influence over the group, he replied: “Just as the trainer has to coach, the players have to play. I am the coach of the team and the role of the president is to lead the federation. It is important for us that everyone It’s about working towards the same goal.”
“Without a doubt, my goal with the technical staff is to raise the level of Iranian volleyball. We need to move forward together,” Piazza concluded.
Piazza was appointed Team Melli coach in early September and arrived in Iran on Monday to complete the deal to replace Brazilian coach Mauricio Motta Paes.
