The ceremony, held in front of the Supreme Court headquarters in Tehran on Monday morning, was attended by many state government officials and judges, including Attorney General Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
“For the past 45 years, many martyrs have cultivated the tree of revolution with their blood,” Supreme Court Chief Justice Mohammad Jafar Montazeri said at the event.
He said “bloodthirsty enemies” wrongly assume that by assassinating these “valuable figures” they can stop Iran from its path to Islamic revolution.
“The people and the youth must seek and find out the answer to this question: Why has the enemy and global arrogance targeted and assassinated certain groups and movements within the Islamic Revolution since its inception? ” he pointed out.
Hojatleslam Ali Rajini, president of the 39th branch of the Supreme Court, and Hojatleslam Mohammad Mokhise, president of the 53rd branch, were assassinated in a terrorist attack on Saturday morning. Both men were known for handling cases related to crimes against national security, espionage, and terrorism.
The Ministry of Justice’s Press Office said in a statement that attempts were made to arrest the gunman immediately after the attack, but he committed suicide soon after.
Islamic revolutionary leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei led prayers over the bodies of the two judges at the Imam Khomeini Religious Center on Sunday night.
