In the name of God, the most compassionate and most merciful
president,
Congratulations to China this month, in anticipation of the Security Council’s presidency. We also warmly congratulate Algeria on the success of leadership in January and the conclusion of the presidency.
Envoy Pedersen and Vice-Chancellor Joyce Musya thank the briefing and support of the UN’s constructive involvement with Syrian caregivers in improving the situation in Syria.
president,
Considering the current situation in Syria, I would like to create the following points:
1) Syria continues to face serious humanitarian and economic challenges. To address these issues, priority must be given to rebuilding critical infrastructure and restoring critical services, particularly early recovery projects, which are essential to national reconstruction efforts. However, these efforts are severely hampered by unfair and illegal out-of-regional sanctions imposed by the US and the EU. Temporary relief from these illegal measures or limited humanitarian exemptions is not a sustainable solution. These measures need to be completely lifted as they disproportionately harm the most vulnerable population, violate the fundamental rights of the Syrian people and interfere with the country’s recovery. Equally important, removing these illegal measures is essential to creating the necessary conditions for the safe, dignified and voluntary return of all Syrian refugees and displaced people.
2) The revival of Syrian terrorism poses an escalating and urgent threat. The existence of foreign terrorist fighters (FTFs) with conflicting agendas exacerbate instability and put both local and global security at risk. As the UN Secretary-General for Counterterrorism warned in this room, the “risk that advanced weapons stockpiles could fall into the hands of terrorists” remains a serious concern. An estimated 42,500 individuals remain in detention camps in northeastern Syria, with some suspected links to Da’esh. A structural and accountable process for repatriation is essential to restore stability in Syria and the wider region. The FTF must be returned to its country of origin and be held liable through legal proceedings and prevented from pose additional threats. Iran is firmly committed to fighting terrorism and is ready to work with legitimate international partners to address this critical challenge.
3) The rights of all communities must be fully respected in accordance with international law and in accordance with all forms of political pressure and harassment aimed at banishing Syrian minorities, particularly Alawians and Shiite minorities. It won’t be. Similarly, protecting the religious places in Syria is important to maintaining the identity and unity of the country. In this context, all communities must have unlimited access to religious places and be able to practice rituals freely without fear of persecution, intimidation or arrest.
4) Israel is a serious threat to Syria, repeatedly violating Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity. Contrary to all Security Council resolutions, the administration refuses to withdraw from the occupied Golan Heights. With US support, Israel expanded its occupation and systematically dismantled Syrian military and research infrastructure. The Security Council must file a decisive lawsuit to stop these violations and withdraw from all Syrian territory occupied by Israel.
5) Iran again reaffirms Syria’s unwavering commitment to sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity. The future of Syria must be determined solely by its people and free from external interference and imposition. Iran supports the formation of an inclusive government through free elections and comprehensive national dialogue, ensuring fair representation of all Syrians. Resolution 2254 (2015) provides a clear framework with constitutional reform as an important priority. Furthermore, Iran emphasizes Syria’s legitimate and suitable place for the international community, and its commitment to international and bilateral obligations while protecting its sovereignty.
6) We affirmatively and explicitly reject any unfounded allegations made by US representatives against my country. These accusations appear to be made not only unfounded, but to distort earthly truths and reality and mislead the international community. Unfortunately, such claims are neither surprising nor unexpected. They are the products of Washington’s directives and believe that Iran should be denounced at every security board meeting. But the facts speak for itself. Over the years, under the pretext of counterterrorism, the US has repeatedly violated Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity, providing safe shelters to promote geopolitical ambitions for terrorist groups and Israeli occupation regimes I did.
7) In conclusion, the Iranian president has played a constructive role and is working to coordinate with the Syrian government, representing the will of the UN, its regional partners, and the Syrian people, achieving lasting peace and stability. I’m dedicated to being dedicated to doing. Syria and the wider region. In this context, we fully support the efforts of the United Nations Special Envoy Gayappedersen, and emphasize that the United Nations must play a central role in this process.
thank you.
