At the 38th African Union Summit held in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa on Sunday, African Union leaders strongly condemned Israeli atrocities in Gaza, and co-operated and normalized member states with the Tel Aviv system I was urged to stop it.
Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians and must be prosecuted internationally, the summit’s final statement read.
“We are calling for cooperation with Israel and ending normalization until we end the occupation and attacks on Palestine,” the Communique pointed out.
In a statement, Hamas said, “I applaud the final statement of the African Union Summit and the cruel Zionist war against Gaza and the principled and brave position of Member States in refusing to violate the regime’s international law.” He said.
The Gaza-based movement praised the communice for denouncement of genocide against Palestinians, and all forms of cooperation and occupation regime, from prosecuting Zionist regimes in international courts to abandoning occupation and attacks on Palestinians. He praised the suspension of normalization.
Hamas explained that the position of African countries is a natural continuation of the continent’s history of struggle against colonialism and oppression, and a natural continuation of compliance with the values of freedom, justice and right to self-determination .
Such a strong stance has shown support for Palestinian resilience to the crimes of the occupying Israeli regime, and that it must halt Zionist groups’ attacks and respect the obligation to prosecute criminal leaders. He emphasized sending a clear message to the international community.
