Tehran – In collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Ministry of Health, Medical and Education (MOHME) provides medical care to children under the age of 5 who are suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in Zabol, southeast. Sistan-Baluchestan Province.
UNICEF is funded by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) and has been providing free treatment to these children since September 2024.
At Amir Almomenin Hospital, we guarantee that more than 54 Sam’s children are already receiving critical medical care and will receive life-saving treatment they need. This initiative not only enhances access to treatment services, but also focuses on children with disabilities and most needy children, ensuring that children are not left behind.
Recognizing the deeper issues of food insecurity, the project will continue throughout 2025. In just three months, the complementary social protection program will provide SAM case cash cards to families, helping families purchase nutritious foods and improve their overall well-being.
A study of food and nutrition monitoring in 2021-2022 confirmed that moderate and severe waste is a major challenge for Cistanbalkestan.
Although free treatments are available, many malnourished children are not covered by the Universal Public Health Insurance (UPHI) and do not include dietary supplements. To bridge these gaps, UNICEF will strengthen its identification and referral system in a primary health care (PHC) setting to ensure that children receive timely treatment and ongoing follow-up care.
By tackling severe malnutrition through both treatment and social protection, UNICEF not only saves today’s lives, but also helps to build a more resilient future for Zabol’s children and families. As part of a social protection intervention, UNICEF’s Iran will address food insecurity among eligible households in Zabor.
Sistan-Baluchestan’s recent services
Following the devastating floods that attacked Sistanbaruchestan, particularly Chabahar and nearby, at the end of February 2024, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) includes access to safe water for affected communities. We have provided important support.
Access to clean and safe water has long been a challenge in the area, even in front of floods.
The UNICEF website was released in a press release on December 22, 2024, and the UNICEF website has partnered with UNICEF, the Ministry of Health, Medical, Education and the Ministry of Energy, with the urgent need to address this risk. We are aware that we have launched a comprehensive program. .
The initiative aims to mitigate waterborne diseases, protect vulnerable families, build resilience in local communities, and ensure sustainable access to clean and safe water .
UNICEF’s response to the water crisis included important support for water safety testing and purification efforts. “40 water sanitizers have been procured and distributed. These devices, which operate with solar energy, provide drinking water to approximately 200,000 people,” UNICEF volunteer water, sanitation and hygiene (cleaning) officers. Siavash Oveisi Arian explains.
“In addition, water quality testing lab equipment has been distributed throughout the state,” he added.
The experimental equipment provided by UNICEF plays an important role in ensuring water safety for the large population of Cistanbalchestan. Fatemeh Fadaee, Water and Wastewater Quality Control Manager, Chabahar County, said, “Assessing the water quality of cities and villages of Chabahar, Dashtiari, Konarak, Zarabad, Gaslegand and Nikshaal, with a population of 1 million, and water safety and quality. .”
This improved water quality testing capacity will help protect the health of communities across the state, reduce the risk of waterborne diseases, and improve resilience to future public health challenges.
UNICEF’s support for children and their families affected by the floods in Cistanbaruchestan, including providing sanitary kits, prefabricated bratlin and showers, experimental equipment, and water disinfectant equipment, is generous from EU humanitarian assistance. It has become possible through assistance.
