Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote in his X account that on February 24 (the anniversary of the Russian-Ukraine War), his country would submit a resolution to UNGA on the settlement of the matter, PressTV reported.
“The United States proposes to the United Nations a groundbreaking resolution that should be supported by the entire UN membership in drawing the path to peace.”
A statement from the US State Department attached to the announcement said US President Donald Trump wanted a “resolution on a conflict that ensures long-term peace.”
According to the US State Department, the resolution coincides with Trump’s position and is consistent with the principles of peaceful resolution of conflicts enshrined in the UN Charter.
Media reports show that the language of the resolution has softened significantly towards Russia compared to the language used in previous documents.
For the first time since the initiation of military operations, the resolution does not describe Russia as the original invader.
The text of the document expresses sadness over a tragic conflict and calls for a quick end.
“It reaffirms the urgent need to end this year’s war, reduces the risk of further escalation and doubles diplomatic efforts to achieve comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine.”
In response to years of military and political provocations by the US and European countries, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine in 2022.
Russia has been able to gain Ukraine’s fifth control and has been slowly moving forward in the East for several months. Supported by the US and European countries, Ukrainian forces tackle the talent shortage and try to protect the territorial masses of Russia’s western territories.
Russia calls for Western military and political provocations to end Ukraine’s lasting neutrality under a peace agreement. Meanwhile, Ukraine demands Russia’s withdrawal from captured land and wants to be a member of NATO.
