The operation, carried out in the state’s intelligence reporting department, discovered four warehouses used to hide weapons and explosives belonging to the terrorist group, various media outlets reported Wednesday.
Intelligence report officials confiscated 226 light weapons, including heavy machine guns such as pistols, Kalashniko Flyful and Golinov, PressTV reported.
Additionally, they recovered over 20 kilograms of explosives, including a half-heavy RPG launcher, two mortar launchers, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and electronic detonation. Some of the seized explosives were destroyed to prevent further terrorist activity.
Authorities revealed that the weapons had been smuggled into the country while they were hidden in the fuel container.
Terrorist groups have recently sought to disrupt security in southeastern Iran, creating instability and prevent Iranian authorities from serving the region’s population.
The operation follows a series of similar rebuttals and anti-terrorist missions by the Iranian army.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) recently dismantled a US- and Israel-linked spy network in Mazandaran, northern Iran, and exposed further plots of foreign aid to destabilize Iran.
Iranian officials have consistently denounced the United States and its allies to support terrorist organizations to undermine the security of the Islamic Republic.
