The DRC presidency said neighboring Rwanda supports rebels and said X’s posts resulted in “several deaths” on Thursday, denounced “foreign forces illegally present in Congolese soil.”
Corneille Nangaa, the leader of the Congo River Alliance, including the M23, himself attended the rally – said that it was the same type used in the explosion and used by the Burundian army of the DRC. His claims could not be verified, Al Jazeera reported.
The first explosion caused panic and attendees fled the area before the second explosion rang out, according to AFP News Agency. Residents said the explosion would involve shootings.
People are running down the street, carrying some bleeding and limp bodies, the video shows. Residents said they saw the dead people.
Nanga was the first to attend the meeting since nearly two weeks ago, when his troops seized control of Bukabu, the second largest city in the region.
Nanga told Reuters in a call, neither he nor the commander of the other senior rebels had been injured in the attack.
