Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei reaffirms Iran’s commitment to a “principle position” and emphasizes that the country will not shift its policy on a daily basis.
“We are in a state of principle and will not move from one policy to another every day. The Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported resistance while facing illegal activities and terrorism honestly,” Baghhai wrote in a post on Friday on X (formerly Twitter).
He also highlighted Iran’s frontline role in the fight against terrorism. “We were the country that first raised the flag and violent extremism of the war against Daesh (Takfiri Terrorist Group) in the hands of our national hero, Mar-in-law (Anti-terrorist General Qassem) Soleimani.
Baghaei also highlighted longstanding opposition to Iran’s extremism and efforts to stabilize its neighbours, Presstv reported.
He noted that Tehran had early rejected an attempt at a coup against the Turkish government, saying, “We were the first countries to oppose the coup against the Turkish government and to stand up to the coup. We were one of the first countries to welcome the disarming of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and consider it an important step to strengthening the security of our neighboring countries.
His comments came a day after PKK founder AbdullahÖcalan called on extremist groups to lay weapons and called for an end to a decades-long conflict that claimed tens of thousands of lives.
In his X post, Baghaei also warned, ignoring “the outright secret hand of the US and Israel in regional development,” claiming that their influence had promoted instability.
He also said that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan “must be freed from the culture of one country that controls other countries. Neither Arabs, Turks, Kurds or Iranians should ask them to control, harass or threaten each other.”
Baghey responded to Fidan’s remarks with the question, “But what about Israel?”
He denounced the Israeli regime for expanding Syrian invasion following the collapse of Damascus on December 8, 2024, when Turkish support forces took control of the capital.
Baghaei said within days of the collapse of Damascus, the Israeli regime launched a massive attack on Syrian military and defence infrastructure, including its science and research centre, destroying more than 90%.
He further noted that the Israeli regime reoccupied the entire height of Goran, seized “large” strategic parts of Syrian territory and expanded its “expansionist agenda.”
In December 2024, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified his visit to Mount Harmon in Syria as an “assessment of Israeli military activities” regarding the Arab country’s highest mountain range.
However, Netanyahu’s December visit to Mount Harmon was described by political analysts as part of the administration’s “Great Israel Project.”
Baghey also warned that “the Israeli regime currently controls Syria’s most important water sources and repeatedly violates the territorial integrity and national sovereignty.”
He emphasized that Tehran has “has not pursued local ambitions in the last 50 years.” Instead, he said he continues to support Iran’s main concerns in support of Palestinians and their causes in the fight against Israeli occupation.
“The Palestine issue is alive and Israel is more disliked than ever,” he argued, adding that plans for forced evacuation in Gaza and annexation of the occupied West Bank cannot be possible without a “sting in the back.”
His comments were in response to a recent statement by President Donald Trump, referring to the “forced movement” of Palestinians from Gaza and the acquisition of the Strip.
