Tehran – Iran is ready to work with regional countries by sharing scientific and technical expertise on the nuclear issue, according to Seyed Kamal Kharrazi, head of the Diplomatic Strategy Council.
In an interview with Egyptian Al Masree Al-Ium, Haraj discussed the region’s disturbed history and argued that colonial powers have long sought domination in Western Asia. He said the establishment of Israel was intended to destabilize the region.
Criticizing our and Israeli policy, Kharrazi said: “The United States and Europe will not abandon this region. They will use division, instability and war to justify intervention.”
Regarding Iran and Egyptian relations, he highlighted the deep historical and civilized relations between the two countries, saying that political engagement depends on leadership decisions, regardless of past or present differences.
The role of resistance in local politics
Addressing the concept of resistance, Kharrazi explained that it was a permanent ideology, not a movement that could eliminate it. “Even if it faces a setback, resistance remains a fundamental part of the local struggle,” he said.
Regarding Iran’s nuclear program, he reiterated that economic sanctions failed to stop Iran’s advances in peaceful nuclear technology. He reaffirmed Iran’s preparation to share scientific advancements with local partners.
Critical views of Western influence in Western Asia
Haraj called the “Middle East” a colonial structure, claiming that western powers were consistently trying to control the region’s energy resources. He linked this to the Sykes-Picot agreement and ongoing Western intervention.
Commenting on the changing global power, Kharrazi suggested that Western Asian countries, including Iran, should embrace multipolarity by fostering regional cooperation. He urged countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia to play a greater role in resisting external pressure.
When asked about Iran’s relationship with Egypt, Haraj said Iran has opened stronger ties and that discussion is ongoing. He argued that Iran’s regional influence is declining, and said that the country is an independent force in West Asia.
He also praised China’s role in fostering the recent reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, calling for deeper economic, security and military cooperation between the two countries.
Israeli expansionist agenda and Iranian stance
Karaj accused Israel of pursuing a long-term expansionist strategy, saying that forced movement of Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan was consistent with territorial ambitions. He warned that Israel’s growing technical and economic influence could be used to pressure the local state to normalize.
Regarding Iran’s support for Hamas and Hezbollah, Haraj reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment, saying, “Iran believes it is an obligation to support its resistance to combat Israel’s occupation.” He added that the leader, Martian, will not thwart these movements, but he said it has the ability to continue regenerating their struggles.
Israel launched a massive military attack on Gaza on October 7, 2023, following a surprising operation by Hamas in response to the escalation of Israeli actions against the Palestinians.
Israel caused massive destruction and killed more than 48,000 Palestinians, but Israel failed to achieve its stated goal of dismantling Hamas or securing the release of prisoners of war.
After 15 months of conflict, Israel finally agreed to a ceasefire with Hamas, ending hostilities and prisoner exchanges.
