TEHRAN – The World Craft Council has awarded outstanding seals to three pieces handmade by indigenous peoples in Fars Province, southern Iran, the state tourism director announced Monday.
The famous label was awarded to Nazem Mohammadi Kashkouri for her recognition of excellence in traditional craftsmanship and for her work in wooden construction by Karim Azargasht, Kilim Weaving, and for her description of her carved jewellery box, Mohammad Sabeth Ekridi.
Their work was chosen by representatives from six regions: West Asia, Central Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania and South Asia, as well as international judges in Uzbekistan.
According to competition rules set by the World Craft Council, each award-winning artwork is registered in the artist’s name, along with the country, state and place of origin, officials explained.
“The recognized works from Fars will be preserved at the Host Country Museum in Uzbekistan as ambassadors of world culture.
According to Tourism Minister Seyed Reza Salehi-Amiri, Iran is estimated to have exported $224 million worth of handicrafts in the current Persian calendar year (starting on March 20, 2024) and exported through the suitcase trade.
Currently, the choice of 16 Iranian cities and three villages is registered as “World City of the World” by the World Crafts Association.
