Tehranda Theatre House in Tehran will host a reading performance for American playwright David Mamet’s play “Oleana” on Saturday.
The performance will be directed by a cast consisting of Amir Mohammad Shavali and Mashid Deravali and Shavali himself.
In the 1992 Two-Written Theatre, a male university instructor and his female student discuss her achievements and, in a frighteningly short time, become participants in a contemporary reprise of interrogation.
Harmless remarks suddenly get worse. Socrates’ dialogue gives way to a fierce attack. And the relationship between the somewhat greasy teacher and his seemingly unhappy student turns into a sleazy, accurate x-ray of mechanisms of power, censorship and abuse.
The title of the play was shot from a folk song and refers to the vision of the 19th century utopian fugitive.
Mamet adapted his play to a 1994 film of the same name starring William H. Macy and Debra Eisenstadt.
