The proposal to unlock state funds by triggering emergency measures to exempt the government from strict deficit spending regulations is equivalent to $68.35 billion over four years to increase GDP by 1.5%, said Commission’s Ursula von Leyen.
Speaking in Brussels after the US said it was blocking all military aid to Ukraine, von der Leyen said that the event should go beyond the real threat level issues facing Europe, or be more responsible for its security, whether it could be answered as “the situation dictates.”
She said the answer from a series of emergency summits in the European capital was a unanimous agreement that a massive increase in defence spending is needed, most recently, from the emergency summit in London on Sunday.
