“The current proposal does not address the reality that Gaza is currently unrestable and that its residents cannot live humanely in a territory covered in shrapnel and misprone faction,” National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes said Tuesday night.
“President Trump supports his vision to rebuild Gaza from Hamas. We look forward to more stories to bring peace and prosperity to the region.”
The postwar plan for the Gaza Strip, proposed by Egypt, would urge Hamas to give power to the interim government until the reformed Palestinian authorities (PA) can envision control, allowing around 2 million Palestinians to remain, in contrast to Trump’s proposal.
At the Arab summit in Cairo yesterday, Egypt proposed that Gazan’s expert committee, overseen by the Palestinian authorities, would administer Gaza for six months before the PA took full control. Egypt’s plan also called for elections in Palestine within a year.
