Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci said the recent altercation between Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky and US President Donald Trump highlighted a chaotic global landscape where foreign policy decisions do not occur isolated and not occurring.
In a memo published in Iran’s Etterat newspaper on Wednesday, Araguc said Washington has positioned as a central hub for decision-making in the West, but added that the role is increasingly challenging. The conflict, which includes Zelensky, Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, shows unresolved differences between diplomatic uncertainty and Western bloc, he said.
The Trump administration had argued that it would restore peace on the international stage. However, Araguchi said, currently faces key challenges in fulfilling this promise amid ongoing conflict involving multiple players.
He also said that one of the key messages of the conflict is the changing dynamics of power in Ukraine. He said Zelensky, once reliant on Western support, is now openly confronting the US president, indicating that a country previously supported by Washington does not want to accept the direction.
Another important question, according to the Minister, concerns Europe’s response to this condition. Europeans paying attention to Eastern Europe’s development are faced with questions about Washington’s power and willingness to lead the Western United Front.
Meanwhile, Russia is closely monitoring their development as it recognizes Western unity as vulnerable, Aragut said.
He further said Trump and Vance are tackling intense domestic pressures while facing international challenges, complicating the situation of their US allies and making it difficult to predict the trajectory of US foreign policy.
Regarding Iran’s stance on the current situation, the Foreign Minister said the Islamic Republic has observed development with care and strategy, highlighting principles such as independence, mutual respect and avoidance of non-constructive rhetoric.
Unlike certain countries that seek reliance on foreign forces for security and stability, Iran recognizes that such dependence often leads to instability and loss of national sovereignty, he said.
