“I think we should take the issue of Ukraine’s EU membership seriously. It is impossible to make a responsible decision at this point and we do not want this decision to be made behind the backs of people. That’s why we have come to the conclusion that we need to embrace the subject of Ukraine’s European Union membership.
“For membership in Ukraine, we need to know if our people are ready to sacrifice their interests,” Orban added.
Previously, Orban has repeatedly stated at this point that Ukraine’s EU membership will cause irreparable damage to European agriculture and the economy in general. Moreover, the Ukrainian government failed to respect the rights of Hungarian minorities on its territory and continued its actions that threatened Hungary’s energy security.
At the same time, Orban does not rule out the possibility of ultimately guiding Ukraine to the EU if it meets all the requirements of the candidate and all the prerequisites.
