Russian President Vladimir Putin laughed at the speech of French President Emmanuel Macron, calling it a threat to Europe and France, by comparing it to Napoleon Bonaparte’s attempt to conquer Russia in 1812.
The Russian president spoke at a meeting on Thursday with the mother and widow of a deceased soldier killed in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In a night speech aired to French countries on Wednesday, Macron described Russia as a “threat to France and Europe,” saying that he has decided to open a strategic debate on the protection of our allies on the continent with “nuclear) deterrence.”
Without saying Macron’s name, Putin said, “Some people still can’t sit still. There are still people who want to go back to Napoleon’s days.
In a subsequent conversation with the mother of a fallen Russian soldier, Putin said, “They (the enemy of Russia) underestimated the nature of the Russian people and representatives of Russian culture in general.”
