At least nine emergency service vehicles lined up on Bridge Street in central London, with crowds watching over police security guards.
A spokesman for Met Police said:
“Officers are on the scene working to lead the incident to a safe conclusion. They are supported by the London Fire Service and London Ambulance Service.”
Bridge Street, located at the northern tip of Westminster Bridge, has been closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident, police said. It is understood that one exit at Westminster Station is also closed, but there is no confusion in tube service and passengers can use the other exits.
A London Fire Service spokesman said: “The firefighters are responding to reports of people expanding Westminster Palace alongside Metropolitan Police.”
LBC reporter Shivani Sharma reported that the protesters were at Elizabeth Tower for almost three hours from 10:20am. The man reportedly said that “peaceful protesters have been brutally arrested,” and that “I brought protests to the so-called democratic hub in Britain.”
