South Korea and the US will pay “terrifying” prices for drills, commentary on the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
“The enemy states must sincerely pay for stupid and reckless war training.
The Pyongyang warning came the day after South Korea and the US military announced that Freedom Shield exercises would begin on Monday for 11 days of computer-simulated drills and field training, Press TV reported.
“Freedom Shield has repeatedly undergone the worst corrections fully equipped with all the malicious signs. KCNA criticised Seoul and Washington for holding its annual spring exercise as a continuing violation of North Korea’s sovereign rights and risks to regional stability, bringing a storm that exacerbates security situations on the Korean Peninsula.”
The Seoul and Washington troops have accused them of planning an increase in the number of large-scale field drills for sale from 10 in 2024 to 16 in 2025.
North Korea emphasized that the enemy’s “war frenzy” has risen to dangerously high levels with a sharp upward curve.
If the US continues to “flex the military muscles,” Pyongyang said it has “strategic deterrence,” which is called “inevitable,” saying it has “there is no choice but to renew its strategic deterrence.”
North Korea has long condemned joint military training from its allies as a rehearsal of invasion.
Last week, Kim Yeo-jeong, a sister to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, denounced the arrival of USS Carl Vinson and other US military activities as “conflict hysteria between the United States and its stogue.”
She warned that North Korean troops would “renew” strategic deterrence after US aircraft arrived at South Korean naval base in Busan.
She said the Trump administration clearly exhibits “the most hostile and confrontational will” in North Korea, thanks to the deployment of joint military training with USS Carl Vinson.
