Minister of Justice and International Affairs, Qasem Galibabadi stresses that the Iranian state does not welcome pressure, sanctions or demands under threat.
At the opening ceremony of an exhibition showing the achievements of Iranian women on Tuesday, Galibabadi said sanctions that violate the rights of people in all fields will affect people’s lives, but will never achieve their goals.
Western countries are no longer able to introduce themselves as pioneers in defending human rights, and cannot accuse other countries of violating human rights, he added.
He stressed that those who advocate for human rights are the leading abusers of the rights of the Iranian people, noting that these countries have imposed unilateral sanctions on Iranian people and passed resolutions at the UN Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly against Tehran.
He said Iran’s Islamic Republic is determined to support and promote human rights, saying Iran is a victim of terrorism, with more than 23,000 Iranian men, women and children being killed by terrorists.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Galibabadi lamented the crimes of the Israeli regime in Gaza, saying that while those who claim to support human rights did not take any action, he even supported the Israeli regime politically, economically and military.
Earlier on February 24, Foreign Minister Abbas Arakich expressed concern that some countries are using human rights as a tool to put political and economic pressure on others, or as a tool to interfere with their internal affairs.
He called on all governments to work towards protecting and promoting human rights based on the principles of fairness and equity.
Araqchi said Iran has long been a victim of such misguided policies and has called for “immediate lifting of all unilateral sanctions.”
