Touraj Dehghani, CEO of State-Run Pars Oil & Gas Company, has announced that the newly launched well in phase 12 of South Pars will add 2 million cubic meters per day (MCM) to the field’s production capacity.
The wells are the first of 35 infill wells planned for the huge gas field as part of a broader effort to enhance hydrocarbon recovery by reducing well spacing. The Ministry of Oil has also installed two additional drilling rigs on the site to accelerate the project.
Officials say the initiative will ultimately increase production of 36 MCM Southpur per day. Currently, Iran produces 716 MCMs per day from the field. This accounts for more than 70% of the country’s total gas output.
The Iranian government has launched major plans to maintain and expand production in Southpur amid growing demand from households, industries and power generation. Last week, four domestic companies secured contracts worth $17 billion to implement pressure-intensive projects in the sector.
