The Gaza government media office issued a statement on the scene at aid distribution point in southern Gaza, saying, “The Israeli project to distribute supply in so-called ‘buffer zones’ has failed miserably.”
“Thousands of hungry civilians, surrounded by nearly 90 days of occupation and cut off food and medicine, rushed to these areas with heartbreaking scenes that ended with the attack on distribution centres and the seizure of food under the overwhelming weight of hunger,” it said.
The Israeli army added that it responded by opening a fire and injuring several civilians.
The agency said the scene was evidence that Israel had not managed the humanitarian crisis. “It was intentionally created through policies of starvation, siege and bombing.”
“The establishment of a ‘buffer ghetto’ to distribute limited aid under the threat of death, bullets and starvation does not show the true intention to deal with a crisis. ”
“It rather represents a calculated political strategy that perpetuates starvation, dismantles Palestinian society, and imposes a political humanitarian trajectory that serves the security of occupation and the military agenda.”
