As previously reported, the dialysis department at Alsifa Hospital in Gaza has been forced to halt services to critical patients due to fuel shortages as a result of the Israeli lockdown.
Emad Qasem, a kidney patient at the hospital, said he went to the hospital today for his routine dialysis.
“This is a life-threatening situation for patients with kidney failure like us. Our lives are in immediate danger even in our scheduled dialysis sessions. Right now I’m in intense pain.
He said there are no other medical centres in Gaza that can provide dialysis treatment.
Another patient, Bashere al-Daroo, said he had to walk almost an hour to arrive at the hospital.
“Today we’ve accumulated an extra five kilograms of liquid that we urgently need to remove. It was a complete shock to learn that the machine stopped working.
