According to Iranian national media, fourth-round talks between the US and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program have begun in Oman, with both aiming to overcome the divisions that hinder interim negotiations.
The indirect discussions are the latest between the two countries and aim to tackle Tehran’s nuclear program and lift sanctions.
The Iranian delegation said Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut will be headed before talks begin, saying the US side “holds a contradictory position, one of our negotiation issues.”
“We’re clearly defined about our boundaries,” Araghchi added, according to Fars’ news agency.
An Iranian official told CNN on Saturday that the recent talks with the US were “not real” from the US side. Iranian sources have also repeatedly said that by allowing uranium enrichment in Iranian soil, this is Iran’s “clear red line” in negotiations.
Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy group that leads the US side, warned that if the speech is not productive, “they must not continue, they must take a different route.”
Talking to Breitbart, Witkoff outlined the US expectations for consultations, including the country’s uranium enrichment program. “The enrichment programme will never be in Iran’s state again. It’s our red line. There’s no enrichment,” he said.
Iran says it will not give up its ability to enrich uranium. For a long time, the country has not wanted nuclear weapons and has argued that the programme is for energy purposes.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
