Tehran – Iran’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology to enhance national identity and cultural preservation.
The agreement was finalised on Monday, with the signatures of Minister of Cultural Heritage Reza Salehi Amiri and Minister of Science Hossain Shimai Saraf.
The collaboration aims to integrate academic research and cultural initiatives to protect Iran’s historic heritage and promote the growth of the creative industry. The agreement establishes a framework for leveraging scientific research, contemporary technology and cultural programs to preserve concrete and intangible heritage.
Minister of Cultural Heritage Salehi Amiri highlighted the important role of universities in shaping civilization and strengthening national identity. He said joint academic festivals and conferences serve as important means to achieve these goals. He also emphasized the need for close cooperation between universities and cultural institutions, particularly through the Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism.
According to Minister Hossein Simayi Sarraf, the university plays an important role in promoting cultural awareness and public pride. He pointed to Iran’s 7th development plan. This called for a 40% increase in vocational education, highlighting the Ministry of Cultural Heritage plays an important role in achieving this goal.
Both ministries are committed to maintaining their intangible heritage, including the protection of traditional festivals like Nowruz. The agreement further promotes heritage conservation, tourism, craft student participation, academic research and innovation.
By filling the gap between academic and cultural heritage efforts, the agreement aims to ensure that education and cultural conservation are closely related. It represents an important step to strengthen Iran’s historical heritage, promote innovation, and develop a deeper sense of national identity among future generations.
