Tehran – About 850,000 Iranians have donated their blood in the first four months of the current Iranian year, which began on March 21, according to officials at the blood transfusion agency.
Tehran, which provided about 15% of the total donated blood, made the biggest contribution, followed by Fars and Holasan Razabi, accounting for 7% of all blood donations, IBTO.IR quoted Shahram Mirzaei as saying.
During the same period, the states of Zanjan, North Holasan and Faz recorded the highest blood donation growth rates in Zanjan, with an increase of 19, 17 and 15 percent, respectively.
Officials went on to say that around 53% of blood donations come from regular blood donors. Semnan Province (approximately 67%), YAZD (over 64%), and Golestan (over 63%) each hold the highest percentage for continuous blood donation.
Currently, the proportion of women who donate blood in the country is above 5%, Mirzaei said.

Blood donation increases by 1.5% per year
Approximately 2.36 million Iranians donated their blood in past Iranian calendar years (March to March 2024), representing a 1.5% increase compared to the previous year.
Tehran and Fars, Horasan Razabi, Isfahan, Mazandaran and Fuzestan Province have made the biggest contributions, the IRIB reported.
Over the past (Iran) years, around 4 million blood units, including blood products, have been moved to medical centres, Iliv said, cited Hajibeij.
Men account for 95% of blood donors, while women contributed to 5%. Women from Lorestan, North Holasan and Sistanbarchestan have earned the highest share, he added.
Emphasizing the need for a negative blood type, officials said 90% of donors have positive blood tests.
