“As previously agreed, negotiations with the Pakistani side will take place today in Doha. A high-level delegation from the Islamic Emirate (of Afghanistan) led by Honorable Defense Minister Mawlawi Mohammad Yacob Mujahid has left for Doha,” President Mujahid told X.
Despite continued airstrikes by Pakistan’s military, Afghanistan remains committed to a peaceful solution and regional stability, the spokesperson added.
TOLOnews reported that the delegation also included the country’s intelligence chief Abdul Haq Wasik.
The current tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan began with clashes that broke out along the Durand Line on October 15th. Borders are not recognized by Kabul. Pakistani forces then attacked targets inside Afghanistan in response to the attack on the checkpoint.
On Wednesday, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a 48-hour ceasefire agreement. The next evening, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan was ready for dialogue. On Friday, Reuters reported that Pakistan and Afghanistan had agreed to extend the ceasefire until the end of the Doha talks.
