The Israeli Foreign Ministry said the African Union (AU) expelled the Israeli ambassador from the Rwandan Genocide meeting on Monday.
Israel’s Ethiopian ambassador Abraham Negaiz was excluded from a conference organized by the African Union of Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, after the member states refused to join with him, according to the New Arabs.
The expulsion was praised by Hamas. Hamas said “aligns with his historical position in favour of Palestinian causes and our people’s struggle against Zionist colonialism, as well as union values and principles.”
The group also called for a “comprehensive boycott” of Israel and “prevents misuse of the platform to whitewash crimes against the Palestinian people.”
Israel has been accused of committing genocide against Palestinian people in the case filed by South Africa’s AU member states at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The Israeli diplomat was also expelled from Ethiopia’s 36th African Union Chief in February 2023.
The annual conference aims to mark the 1994 genocide as a genocide for Rwanda’s Tutsi, raising awareness of life and human values, and renewing a common commitment to protecting human rights.
