TEHRAN – Four people were killed in two separate attacks in Iran’s southeastern region on Saturday as terrorists appear to have stepped up the attack after a period of intense crackdown by Iranian troops and security forces.
One attack in Sistan and Balautistan province created two Basiji martians. In another incident a few hours later, two traffic officers lost their lives when an unidentified terrorist fired a vehicle in Carman State.
The attack has been the latest in recent years in a series of terrorist acts that have involving Iran’s southeastern region, particularly in Sistan and Balkestan.
After bringing more than dozens of police and soldiers martial arts following the shocking attack on police convoys in November, Iranian military and security forces have launched a cooperative effort to neutralize terrorist cells and their affiliates. Several networks have since been demolished, with Iranians confiscating large caches of weapons they plan to go to terrorists.
The two Saturday attacks came after a mild period after Intelligence Minister Esmail Katib announced that “importing elements” were trying to create chaos in southeastern Iran. “Through the history of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic, the enemy has always tried to carry out and plot acts of instigation (against the country). Today, we witness that if an unrestraining act occurs, these actions will be carried out by these people or import agents that do not belong to this region.”
The region, particularly known as Macran, will become Iran’s important business hub in the coming years.
The Tehran Times understands that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Intelligence Ministry have further strengthened its anti-terrorism efforts since the recent attacks.
