TEHRAN – The air defense system was activated late Friday night in Tehran, central and western areas, intercepting what witnesses and informal reports identify as Israel-run MAVs (micro aviation vehicles).
An explosion was observed in the sky and no damage was reported to the ground. Many Tehran residents went to the roof and gathered at Engelab Square to chant “Araf Akbar” or to protest Israel. Residents were also seen in the park and observed the air defense system in operation.
The incident comes after a series of blasts in the capital shook the neighborhood and killed dozens of Iranian citizens, military officials and nuclear scientists sleeping in residential buildings early Friday. Israel said it was responsible for the massacre and targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, military bases and radar systems.
Iran responded by firing multiple waves of ballistic missiles in occupied areas, with footage showing massive damage in major cities like Tel Aviv.
