The move comes in response to the recent arrests of three Algerian citizens in France, including a consul official suspected of being involved in the abduction of Amir Boucor, an exiled Algerian influencer known as “Amir DZ.”
French Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barott confirmed his expulsion on Monday, calling the decision “unjust” and urged Algeria to reverse the order. He warned that if expulsion progressed, France would “respond immediately.”
The incident strengthens already vulnerable ties between the two countries. French authorities last week indicted three Algerians in connection with Bouhaus’s brief temptation in the Paris suburbs in April 2024. Bouhose, a critic of the Algerian government’s voice, was granted political asylum in France in 2023.
Algiers condemned the arrest of consul officials and allegedly violated diplomatic immunity and standard bilateral procedures. Algerian officials argue that the arrests are politically motivated and aim to undermine efforts to rebuild relations.
