Strategically located on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea in Mazandaran province of Behshahr, the port is located just 330 km from Tehran and 55 km from the state’s capital, Sari. This advantageous position provides ports with direct access to major urban centres and promotes its role as an important conduit for trade between Iran and its northern neighbours, including Independent States (CIS) and Eastern Europe.
Strategic Transportation Position
The Port of Amirabad is a major node of the INSTC and will promote freight transport from Scandinavia, the Caucasus and CIS countries to the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The port is also located in Transport Corridor Europe, Kaukasas Asia (TRACECA), and is strengthening its role as an international logistics center.
Access and Connection
Amirabad is directly connected to the National Railways network, with five railway lines serving both the eastern and western berths. The port is close to Sari International Airport and supports the rapid movement of goods and personnel. The port also offers roll-on/roll-off services for trucks, encouraging efficient vehicle and cargo movement.
Economic Belt (SEZ) Benefits
As a designated SEZ, Amirabad offers tax cuts, streamlined habits and other legal benefits to investors and operators. The port encourages investment in industries related to steel, wood, paper, minerals, fuel products, storage facilities, grain silos and manufacturing/service units.
Advanced infrastructure
The port is equipped with advanced machines for loading and unloading of containers, general and bulk cargo. The berth is equipped with discharge showers for cooking oil, diesel, heavy fuel oil and gasoline. With an area of 30,000m², the container cargo station supports efficient container handling and logistics.
Role in Regional and International Trade
The Amirabad port facility is a key component of Iran’s northern trade infrastructure and provides access to the CIS and the enormous consumer market of around 300 million people in Eastern Europe. It supports integration into Iran’s global supply chain as well as efficient links to Europe, the Caucasus and Asia.
The Amirabad Port complex is located in Iran’s most advanced and strategically north port. With its multimodal connectivity, robust infrastructure and integration into the international transport corridor, it is a lynching pin for trade in Iran, CIS and others. Its continued expansion and an investor-friendly environment allow it to play a pivotal role in the country’s economic development and regional connections.
