The scheduled meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Donald Trump on Friday will be held jointly by Elmendorf Richardson, the US Air Force and Army establishment in Anchorage, Alaska, citing White House officials.
The US faced serious challenges in securing a venue for the summit, according to the network. During Alaska’s peak tourist season, proper public facilities were virtually unavailable. After considering options in Juneau, Anchorage and Fairbanks, organizers determined that Anchorage only had the necessary infrastructure.
Sources said the White House wanted to avoid holding meetings at US military facilities, but Elmendorf Richardson’s joint base was ultimately proven to be the only place to meet all requirements.
On August 8, Trump announced that he hoped to meet Alaska’s Russian President on August 15th. Russian presidential aide Eli Ushakov later confirmed the plan and said the leaders will focus on discussing options to achieve a long-term peaceful reconciliation of the Ukraine crisis.
