On January 19, 2017, a fire broke out in the Prasco Building, a 17-story steel skyscraper in Tehran, which collapsed with several firefighters still inside.
The 8th anniversary of the fall of Plascoville is an opportunity to remember the heroes who sacrificed their lives to save others.
On the cold morning of January 19, 2017, a massive fire engulfed the Plasco Building. The flames spread relentlessly, threatening the lives and livelihoods of dozens of people. Within hours, Prasko, once a symbol of Tehran’s modern commerce and development, was reduced to a pile of ash.
What kept this tragedy forever in the collective memory of the Iranian people was the bravery of the firefighters who rushed into the inferno without hesitation and with courageous hearts. Their names will never be forgotten. These are heroes who, even in their final moments, were dedicated to saving others.
A monument honoring these selfless people now stands on Telang’s Jomhouri Street, where the Prasco Building was located.
Those who were near the building that day still remember the sound of sirens, the noise of the crowd and the tireless efforts of the rescue team. Every second of that day passed with a mixture of fear and hope, and by noon the building had completely collapsed, leaving behind a deafening silence.
Two years after the tragedy, the new Prasco Building was constructed. The new Plasco building incorporates advanced safety features and the latest architectural design to ensure it meets the highest standards for fire protection and structural stability. This is a promise to the families of the victims and the wider community that their sacrifices have not been forgotten.
The anniversary of the Plasko tragedy is not just a reminder of the disaster. It is a symbol of unity, sacrifice and humanity that brings us closer in difficult times.
