The Associated Press reported that tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Bangladesh’s capital on Saturday to condemn Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.
Protesters gathered at Surawardi Park in the University of Dhaka area, estimated at around 100,000. They raised hundreds of Palestinian flags and chanted slogans such as “Free and Free Palestine.”
Many have defeated the images of US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Narendra Modi, accusing them of supporting Israel. The iconic co- and statues were brought to represent civilian victims during the rally.
The Bangladeshi nationalist party led by former prime minister Khaleda Zia, as well as Muslim groups and political parties, have expressed solidarity with the rally.
Bangladesh, a Muslim majority country of 170 million, does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel and officially supports independent Palestine.
